Healthy Aging

AARP – The American Association of Retired Persons website offers a wealth of free information on a variety of topics, including health, retirement, social security, travel, money, entertainment, jobs, family caregiving, volunteer opportunities and more. The also have a paid membership that provides access to hundreds of benefits and discounts. AARP’s mission is to empower people to choose how they live as they age.

Aging Life Care Association – Connects seniors and families with Aging Life Care Professionals in their area who have expertise in the following eight knowledge areas: health and disability, financial, housing, families, local resources, advocacy, legal, and crisis intervention.

American Seniors Association – Offers free information on their website about insurance, health and wellness, travel, leisure and lifestyle, and more for Americans 50 and older. They have a $15 annual fee that provides access to additional benefits and discounts. They advertise their organization as the conservative voice for America’s seniors.

Eldercare Locator – A public service of the U.S. Administration on Aging that connects older adults and their families to services in their communities nationwide.

Mayo Clinic – The Mayo Clinic is a renowned nonprofit medical and research center. Their website provides health and wellness information, and they offer a free e-newsletter to keep you in the know about the latest health information and research, straight from their experts.

Music & Memory – A non-profit organization working to make the therapeutic use of personalized music a standard of care for individuals living with Alzheimer’s, dementia, and other cognitive limitations. Also, check out the documentary Alive Inside that demonstrates the power of music to combat memory loss and the incredible effects it has on those who are suffering from it.

National Institute on Aging – The NIA works to transform aging through research on aging and the health and well-being of older people. Check them out for the latest on Alzheimer’s and related dementias, caregiving, clinical trials, cognitive health, end of life, healthy eating, and exercise and physical activity.

U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs – Provides information about the variety of benefits available to veterans from healthcare to education, home loans, life insurance and much more. Did you know that the Department of Veterans Affairs pensions provide a monthly benefit for wartime veterans (or their surviving spouses), which can be used to fund senior care?

Paying for Long-Term Care

Genworth – Offers a Cost of Care survey tool on their website to help calculate the cost of long-term care across the United States. Simply plug in your zip code. The site offers additional resources including helpful tools and checklists for seniors and their families to help plan for the future.

Placement Agents

Bridge to Better Living – Focuses on researching senior care options in Lincoln & Omaha, Nebraska, Central & South Denver, and Northern Kentucky. Bridge to Better Living placement agents personally visit the facilities in these areas and interview the staff to match their clients with an option that best fits their needs and interests. They describe themselves as “your own personal Senior Living Guide.”

National Care Planning Council – Offers a Placement Management Resources listing on their site that can help with locating a retirement home, assisted living, residential living, memory care or an adult foster care home in the area that you live.

SeniorLiving.org – This site provides information about senior placement agencies and how they work. They strive to constantly update their website to reflect fresh, accurate senior resources. You will need to enter your zip code and answer a few questions to search for senior living options near you. Once the search is complete you will be asked to provide your name, phone number, and email to download the free list.

Lifestyle and Travel

ElderTreks– An adventure travel company designed for people 50 and over that offers small-group adventures by both land and sea in over 100 countries.

Seniors With Latitude – An inspiration and travel lifestyle resource blog for active boomers written by Jack and Elaine – two adventurous seniors who share their global travel experiences and top tips for planning your own adventures.

Sixty&Me – A vibrant lifestyle website offering information to women over 60. The site covers aging, health, travel, money, mindset, dating, relationships, beauty, senior living, downsizing, and more. The founder, Margaret Manning, wants to help people develop a positive mindset about this stage of their life and invites readers to join a community of 500,000 women being inspired to live their lives to the fullest.
